10 Questions to Ask Your Builder

We think its important for anyone looking to build a new home to ask your prospective builder some powerful questions. Any home builder worth his/her salt should be able to answer these questions. 1) Do you build energy efficient homes? If so, do you have them independently tested?

2) What type of insulation do you use? If they are using fiberglass find out why?

3) How many air changes per hour are your homes achieving?

4) What is the average HERS (Home Energy Rating System) Rating on your homes?
If you were buying a car you would want to know the MPG, why wouldn’t you want to know the same for your New Home?

5) What are you going to do to achieve healthy indoor air quality?

6) Have you built an ENERGY STAR rated home?

7) How do you plan on reducing waste on the job site?

8) What types of paints, sealants, and floorings do you use? Do they contain low or NO VOC?

9) Does the insulation you use in your homes prevent mold and help prevent fires?

10) How many pounds per year of harmful CO2 emissions are you going to save building this home?
